Sandoval Regional Medical Center gets new equipment

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - State of the art equipment going in at the Sandoval Regional Medical Center should not only make procedures faster, but also more comfortable.

The advanced CT scanner and MRI will be available when the new hospital opens this summer at the Rio Rancho city center.

The radiology medical director says the 128 slice CT scanner is much faster, which is critical when taking images of moving organs like the heart.

And the room offers special lighting to change to calm patients.

“Right now we have an ocean view displayed on the wall and this is designed for adults but also for children to keep them entertained and also to put them at ease,” Dr. Brad Cushnyr said.

The new MRI has the strongest magnet available for better images, but also uses low-dose technology to reduce exposure to radiation.
