LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) - A person walking in the Rio Grande bosque Wednesday spotted what appeared to be a burial site complete with a grave marker for "Baby Garcia."

Los Lunas police later uncovered a jar containing what appeared to be a fetus.

The walker reported the find about 9:15 a.m. and then escorted open-space rangers to the site. The rangers notified police after seeing the wooden cross reading "RIP, Baby Garcia, Our Little Angel Went to Heaven on 6/20/12."

Detectives removed a small amount of dirt and found a green tin can containing a blue infant's shirt and shorts. Also in the can was a clear container holding what appeared to be blood.

At that point the Office of the Medical Investigator was called, and one of its investigators said there appeared to be a small fetus in the container. However, further testing will be needed to confirm that opinion, according to a statement from the Los Lunas Police Department.

Police said they are not seeking charges against whoever created the grave but would like to make contact with anyone involved to help the parents with a proper burial for the unborn child.
