PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) - The city swimming pool in Portales has been closed after a child with an infectious disease swam in the pool last week.
The state health department says the parasitic disease affects the intestines of mammals.
Officials say those who were in the pool with the child should not be worried because the water has enough chlorine to kill the infection.
But they are telling people in the area to see a doctor if you experience any symptoms, including diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and a low fever.
The city is treating the pool Monday and it could reopen later this week.
