HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) - The outbreak of fungal meningitis blamed on injections of tainted steroids now has some patients in New Mexico being warned.
The Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs is now contacting patients that were given other medicine prepared by the New England Compounding Center, the company believed responsible for the contaminated steroids.
None of the steroid batches implicated in the meningitis outbreak were shipped to New Mexico.
The Food and Drug Administration says inspectors have found bacteria and mold growing in rooms of the facility that were suppose to be kept sterile.
As of Friday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was tracking 338 cases of fungal meningitis in 18 states. Twenty-five deaths have been reported.
