$11M will help improve health centers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico is getting nearly $11 million in federal funding to make improvements at several community health centers around the state.

The grant funding comes from the Department of Health and Human Services.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman says the centers are part of New Mexico's health care safety net and will become more important as the new health insurance reform law is fully implemented over the next two years.

Presbyterian Medical Services in Santa Fe will receive $5 million, while Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless will get $3.65 million.

First Choice Community Healthcare Inc. in Albuquerque will get $500,000.

Also receiving funding are Espanola's El Centro Family Health, Las Cruces' La Clinica de Familia Inc. and the Ben Archer Health Center in Hatch.
