ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Firefighters say that a fire in downtown Albuquerque could have created a towering inferno Thursday.
Crews rushed out to Central and 4th Street around 12:20 Thursday morning where they found smoke and fire in the second story of one of the buildings.
Firefighters got the fire out pretty quickly and say if they didn't things could've been much worse.
”As you notice this construction is very old and it is a strip mall type so all the buildings are connects they share walls so if it had gone to a large fire and it was a two story structure adjacent to two larger structures that then yes the possible are yes to having a pretty big fire definitely,” Captain Frank Soto said.
Part of central was blocked off overnight, but it is open now.
Firefighters are still trying to figure out what started the fire.
