Survey: 147 million to shop this weekend

Both online and in stores

(CNN) - The National Retail Federation is out with a preliminary survey of expected Black Friday shoppers.

It predicts up to 147 million Americans will shop over the holiday weekend, both online and in stores.

And retailers are gearing up earlier than ever for the shopping rush. They're offering major deals that actually start before the turkey's even cold on Thanksgiving evening.

Some shoppers started camping out last week, hoping to score big deals.

The deal seekers say it's worth it, but others were shocked to see the shoppers lined up.

"You can't get the door busters, it's first come first serve," said Alicia Gomez.

"I can't believe it, I am floored, I just don't think a TV is that important. That's time you can spend with your family," said Ana Holden.

Last year Black Friday saw record sales. According to the National Retail Federation the average shopper spent nearly $400.
