NM's oldest Bataan Death March survivor laid to rest

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - New Mexico’s oldest Bataan Death March survivor was buried with full military honors Monday in Tatum.
Virgil Wallace was 99-years-old.
After enlisting with the U.S. Army in 1941, Wallace worked as a fuse setter with the 200th Coast Guard Artillery Unit.
He was among the 1,800 New Mexico soldiers captured by the Japanese and forced to march 70 miles to a camp in World War II.
Wallace was held captive for three and a half years until he was released in 1945.
He was awarded the bronze star and numerous other medals for his ordeal.
