LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A building occupied by the Las Cruces Sun-News for decades has been demolished.

A fire that damaged the building a year ago forced the newspaper to relocate its operations and it has sat vacant ever since.

A large part of the former Safeway grocery store building came down Friday.

Construction of a new $1 million building for the Sun-News is expected to start within months and occupancy is expected by the end of the year.

The Sun-News says the paper had been in the Las Cruces Avenue building since the late 1960s.
