Roswell welcomes Germany's 'Air Force One'

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) - The Roswell airport hosted Germany’s equivalent to Air Force One, just without the German chancellor.

They were here for training.

Roswell's long runways and friendly environment made it a great place for the crew of the massive airbus to train.

“Due to security reasons our call sign when I’m talking to air traffic controlling it's not German air force one,” Lt. Col. Peter Nicolin said. “It’s just German air force and a three digit number. So we do not want to have anybody just by listening to the call sign have an idea whom we are carrying.”

Despite the tight security the German air force welcomed KRQE News 13’s camera onboard the airbus 310.

The plane is pretty big but still smaller than USA's Air Force One the 747 jumbo-jet.

The German plane heads back to Germany Monday.
