LAS CRUCES (KRQE) - Authorities had believed that a stranded dog found at the base of the Organ Mountains could be been a sign that its owner was lost.
But the owner hasn't been located, and now the dog is being put up for adoption.
Dona Ana County sheriff's investigators tell the Las Cruces Sun-News that the Labrador-pit bull mix had climbed off a cliff last month and showed reluctance in leaving the spot.
But the sheriff's mounted patrol unit found no signs of anyone being stranded or lost in the mountains and called off its search.
Rescue crews named the black dog "Fallen."
