LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A group that has played host to the Southern New Mexico State Fair and Rodeo is protesting a decision against renewing its contract.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that members of the Southern New Mexico State Fair & Rodeo Association plan to attend a Tuesday meeting of the Dona Ana County Commission.
County Manager Brian Haines says the contract wasn't renewed because the group hadn't complied with key contract terms that were aimed at ensuring financial transparency and accountability with operations on the public-owned fairgrounds west of Las Cruces.
Haines says he plans to open up a bidding process to find the next concessionaire.
Officials with both the fair and the county assure the dispute won't affect this year's fair, which is slated for Oct. 3-7.
