LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Commercial construction permits are on the rise in Las Cruces.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that the city issued 94 commercial building permits for new or addition projects with a valuation of $16.6 million from January through the end of March.
That's the best in total valuation since 41 permits were issued during the same time period in 2009 for $18.8 in projects, a large chunk of that was fueled by new construction at a medical center that year.
But Jim Reedy, president of the Las Cruces Home Builders Association, says that he's not positive the momentum is here to stay.
He says there does not appear to be enough projects in the queue to sustain the growth.
