State police say John Verhalen, who is from Scottsville, Texas, was flying a single engine airplane made by Mooney Aircraft, a company he used to work for.

Verhalen, his sister, girlfriend and niece were all killed in the crash.

An airport attendant warned him not to take off because the winds were gusting about 50 miles-per-hour at the time.
