Vaughn's police chief steps down

VAUGHN, N.M. (KRQE) - Three months since a Larry Barker investigation exposed a police chief in New Mexico could not carry a real gun, that man is no longer a chief.

Vaughn's mayor says Police Chief Chris Armijo stepped down Tuesday night, but the mayor couldn't say why.

Officials say Armijo had to carry a fake gun because he was a convicted felon for not paying his child support in Texas.

He was also arrested a couple months ago, accused of selling a police rifle and pocketing the cash.

The town only has one other officer and he is been convicted of domestic violence and that means he can not carry a gun either.
