No mail on Saturday could delay checks

USPS: No more mail on Saturdays starting in August

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - On Wednesday, the U.S. Postal Service announced that they will no longer make mail deliveries on Saturdays starting in August. Many who receive checks in the mail are not happy about the one day delay.

Package deliveries will still be made on Saturdays.

The Postal Service says that mail to post office boxes will continue on Saturdays and that postal stations which are usually open on Saturdays will remain open.

Some seniors at the Barelas Senior Center had mixed reaction on the news, especially when it comes to the timeliness of getting a physical check in the mail and putting it in the bank. Another concern is if there's a holiday on the following Monday that would delay receiving the funds by one more day.

"I think that mail delivery on Saturday is a waste," says Mary Lucas of Albuquerque. "...myself, personally it won't affect me, Monday through Friday is fine."

Places like the Barelas Senior Center offer computer classes for seniors teaching them how to utilize direct deposit services from their banks and not have to rely on depositing a physical check.
