NM reacts to Obama's proposed gun laws

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Local gun store owners are angry over the newly proposed gun laws.
    
Owners say the laws will be hard to enforce and believe they will only drive crime rates up.
    
Customers have been walking into Gunhawks Firearms in Los Lunas Wednesday morning, asking for some of the items they might not be able to find once the laws go into effect.
    
Employees at Gunhawks say President Obama's proposal is superficial.
    
Those at the store watched the president's speech Wednesday morning in silence.
    
They smirked when the president mentioned banning high capacity magazines and high powered assault rifles.
    
One of the employees even showed KRQE News 13 just how quickly someone could reload a 10 round magazine, which would not be banned.    
    
It can be done in seconds and so far there are no restrictions on how many 10 round clips someone can carry.
    
Employees say this will not help cut down on mass shootings.

”What he's proposing is going to disarm citizens, increase the crime rate and put more guns in the hands of criminals,” Gunhawks employee, Joshua Waters, said. “Criminals don't follow the laws.”
  
There were some people inside the gun shop who are in favor of the president's proposal to require anyone who buys a gun to go through a more strict background check.
    
Everyone at Gunhawks say they want to read the rest of the 23 items in the president's plan before deciding how it will affect their business.

Santa Fe Mayor David Coss is one of 50 U.S. mayors who are in support of tougher gun laws.
   
He has been very vocal about this in the past few days.
