Exercise regiments are in full swing for New Year

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - As with the start of every new year, many people are making the resolution to start a workout and exercise regiment. Instructors say there are a few key things to remember when you start one.

"If you're trying to work out and you're hating every moment of it, you know it's not going to keep you coming back so here," says Reece Killebrew, owner of the westside L.A. Boxing location in Albuquerque in reference to a kickboxing workout. "It's hard enough to make you hate every moment but you want to come back because it's so fun."

Killebrew says they see the spikes of new clientele within the first three months of every new year. However, it's the amount of commitment you have which will likely determine how long you will continue with the workouts.

"I mean you've got to make your goals realistic, you've got to have the right person leading you," adds Killebrew. "I think people get discouraged you know after the first day, they get so sore, the next day they're sore and they don't want to come back, but if you have somebody leading you the right way and giving you the right direction it's easy to come back."

"I won't lie and tell you that it was easy, the first week, I mean you've really got to give it 2 solid weeks but if you come, you will see results," says gym member Charlene Shaulis.

Aside from the vigorous workout, trainers say sticking with a good diet will also help you see results, in turn giving you the momentum for working out.

"Diet is super important in your fitness," says Killebrew. "Having the right workout, having the right person leading you, but without diet you're not going to reach your goals."

Of course, before you start any kind of regiment, it's highly recommended that you get a full check up from your doctor. whether it's going to be a regular workout or something intense like kick boxing. Instructors say the kickboxing workout can burn about 800 to 1,000 calories per session.
