ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque city councilors are set to discuss and possibly take final action on renaming a community center after boxing legend Johnny Tapi a Monday night.
The center is currently called The Wells Park Community Center and is near 5th Street and Mountain.
Last month, Councilor Ken Sanchez, who originally proposed the name change, said he heard from Charles Wells' family. Wells is the man whom the community center is currently named after.
He was a city manager in the late 40s.
Sanchez said he would also consider naming a gym after Tapia or building a statue in his honor instead.
