ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A group of concerned citizens in Santa Fe think they have caught a prairie dog killer.
About 100 prairie dogs live on the corner of Saint Michaels Drive and Galisteo Street.
Someone has been shooting at them for the past six weeks, so members of a local environment group set up surveillance in the area.
Sunday morning they watched a man pull up to the intersection, pull out a pellet gun and start shooting.
"I always imagine the mind set of someone who would wake up in the morning and get in their vehicle come to a location which is benign to them and go out and shoot innocent creatures that a lot of people care about,” Steve Dobbie said.
Dobbie called in a license plate and police met the man at home.
They cited the man for firing a deadly weapon in city limits, but he could face more charges.
