ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - According to the Bernalillo County Water Authority, in June residents used about three billion gallons less than last year.

The Water Authority said that is impressive because June is usually the month when the most water is consumed.

“It’s important that in July we don't increase our usage beyond what we did in June,” Water Conservation Officer Katherine Yuhas said. “We did a good job in June stick with that don't go over it and keep following the watering by numbers program that says three times per week."

The easiest and cheapest way to cut water usage is to upgrade toilets to a low flow version. That saves about three gallons per flush.
