FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Carriers are increasing cell phone coverage in San Juan County.
The Farmington Daily Times reports ( http://bit.ly/NLeo9o ) that Arizona-based Cellular One plans to install 11 more cell phone sites in San Juan County as it seeks to carve out a niche in a market driven by larger carriers.
Cellular One is negotiating with potential partners, including American Tower Co., AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc., to locate on existing cell phone towers to enhance Cellular One's coverage.
Cellular One is looking to add to its 21 existing sites in the San Juan area.
Last fall, AT&T said it was adding 10 frequency carriers in an effort to ease broadband congestion after customer complaints.
The company also built a new tower last year.
Verizon has added two cell sites.
