ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque Public Schools elementary teacher is on paid leave after allegations surfaced that she had sexual contact with one of her students.

The special education teacher at Alameda Elementary allegedly had sexual contact with one of her students at the school, according to sources with Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department and APS.

The allegation against teacher was reported a month ago. The sheriff's department and the district are both investigating.

The teacher first started as a substitute teacher at Alameda in February 2010.

She is now a full-time employee and splits her hours between Alameda and Reginald Chavez elementary schools.

One parent at Reginald Chavez said he hopes the allegations are not true.

"Because our kids comes to this school, too, event though they are not special ed," Jesus Estrada said.

Because of personnel rules APS cannot say who made the accusations, whether it was a student, a parent or another teacher.

The district also cannot say how old the student is or whether the student was alone with the teacher at the time of the alleged incident.

A source with the sheriff's department said the investigation will be complete soon.

The teacher is not charged with a crime at this point. That will be determined once the investigation is complete.

APS did notify parents at Alameda Elementary School about the investigation.
