ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Thousands of Albuquerque Public Schools children will start school next week, but many of them won't have the supplies they need.
But thanks to a joint effort by local businesses and the city, there are now loads of pencils, paper, backpacks, notebooks and other supplies available.
APS Superintendent Winston brooks said the district ended the last school year with 7,000 homeless children/
Every year the need for help grows, Brooks added, and without the help of the community the kids would be left empty-handed.
"Fifty-five thousand students out of our 89,000 students come from families who are really struggling," Brooks said.
The supplies collected were delivered to the APS warehouse where they will be distributed to the students in need throughout the year.
