ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The tax-free shopping for schools supplie this weekend offers an opportunity to help out the neediest kids in the Albuquerque Public Schools district.
The APS board, the city of Albuquerque, businesses and community members are teaming up to fill buses with school stuff and are encouraging APS parents to pick up a few extra items for the campaign while shopping for their own kids.
“It’s going to be hard for some families to send their children back to the classroom with the school supplies they need,” board President Paula Maes said in a statement released by APS. "So we’re encouraging the public to ‘stuff the bus’ with pencils, notebooks, crayons and other supplies."
Friday through Sunday supplies can be dropped off to these Ford dealerships.
Bob Turner’s Ford, 1101 Montaño road ne
Rich Ford, 8601 Lomas Blvd. NE
Don Chalmers Ford, 2500 Rio Rancho Dr. in Rio Rancho
The Corporate Volunteer Council of Central New Mexico representing several corporations including Sandia National Laboratories, Fidelity Investment, PNM, Lovelace, Presbyterian and others will be collecting school supplies as well.
