HOBBS, NM (KRQE) - There is a teacher crisis in Hobbs and part of it is because of the housing crisis.

The district says it needs to fill 18 positions immediately.

The superintendent says the shortage is result of some teachers quitting to go work for the oil industry which pays more and also teachers not being able to find affordable housing.

With the oil industry there booming, there are not enough homes, apartments or even hotel rooms to go around.

The superintendent says they are working to fill the teaching positions as quickly as they can.
