APS boots kids over shooting threat

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Two students plotting a shooting rampage and then their suicides won't be coming back to their middle school.

Their plan was to shoot up Tony Hillerman Middle School in December on 12-12-12, according to police.

But the Albuquerque Public Schools district was tipped to the sixth-graders' plot to gun people down and then either shoot or hang themselves.

The plan scared a lot of people at the school when it was revealed two weeks ago .

But now they won't be doing anything at Hillerman for the rest of this school year because they have been kicked out.

The school sent a letter to parents Thursday letting them know the two boys are gone.

The district will have to decide what to do with the kids for the next school year. By law APS can't expel the two from the district forever.

A police report said one of the boys planned the shooting spree after a girl he liked didn't return the sentiment. Another student heard about the plan and turned them in.

APS says the threat was real with the kids plotting to act on the specific date during a specific school period.

The names of the two boys have not being released. One of them is the stepson of a Bernalillo county deputy sheriff.

They have not yet been hit with any criminal charges.
