SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a Crownpoint woman to three years of probation for embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a Navajo tribal organization.

The U.S. attorney's office says 36-year-old Shavna April Bebo was sentenced Monday in Santa Fe. In addition to her probation, she must pay nearly $39,000 in restitution.

Bebo was charged earlier this year with writing checks to herself on the Littlewater Chapter House business account using the signature of the organization's officials.

Bebo had worked as an administrative assistant in the business office for four years.

Federal prosecutors say chapter house officials had exposed Bebo's scheme and fired her in August 2010.

Bebo pleaded guilty in June to forging 51 checks and embezzling $38,998.37.
