CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) - Carlsbad police are looking for an intruder who attacked an elderly woman in her home.
It happened late yesterday afternoon on the 200 block of east plum.
Police say the suspect knocked on the door of the 79-year-old woman home in the 200 block of East Plum Street Tuesday afternoon.
He asked her for money, and when she told him she didn't have any, he pushed his way inside.
The victim pressed her Life Alert button, but the man pulled it off her neck and forced her into the bathroom.
That's when he took off.
"It appears he realized she pressed the button and knew authorities would be there soon," said Lt. Jennifer Moyers of the Carlsbad Police Department.
The victim was shaken up but is expected to be OK.
The man, described as 5-feet 7 inches tall and 180 pounds with short brown hair, was wearing sunglasses, an unbuttoned plaid shirt and jeans.
