Woman found dead on side of the road

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A woman's body is found on the side of the road near Coors and Montano, and Albuquerque Police believe she was murdered.

Officers say the body was found on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Coors.  They say  it appears as if she suffered some sort of trauma.

Residents say they're shocked something like this would happen on such a busy street.

"It looked like it was someone involved in a hit and run or someone fell out of the car and they didn't bother to stop," said Paul Dill a neighbor walking in the area.

Coors north of Montano and south of Paseo Del Norte was shut down in both directions for about nine hours Sunday as police investigated the apparent homicide.

They say a passerby called 911 at 6:30 a.m. reporting a body on the shoulder of Coors.

When police arrived they said they found the woman unresponsive.

Business owners watched as customers were detoured around their locations.

"I'm sure she has brothers, sisters, a mom and a dad, family that are going to miss her," said the Manager of Bike World Scott Doner. "It's always that way unfortunately."

Police are working with the Office of the Medical Investigator to determine the woman's age and name.

They have not said if this was a random crime, but are hoping to catch whoever is responsible.

"I know that I think 'Whoa! What's going on here?' is there someone out there doing something like this," said Dill.

Police have not named any suspects in this case.
