ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A lover's quarrel took a nasty turn after police say the woman took a page out of Mike Tyson’s playbook.

But she didn't go for the ear.

Laverna Joe faced a judge Sunday on aggravated battery charges.

According to a criminal complaint Joe and her boyfriend were drinking early Saturday morning at a southwest Albuquerque home, when they got into an argument.

When officers arrived they found Joe’s boyfriend with his index finger cut clean-off and more bite marks on his head.

Police say the boyfriend couldn't remember what started the fight but Joe told police it because she called his mom a crack head.

That's when Joe claims her boyfriend grabbed her first and started choking her, so she had to bite his finger off in self defense.

Police did not believe Joe and arrested her.
