BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) - Two Belen Middle School students have been arrested for allegedly plotting to shoot up the school.
Police suspect four other students may be involved.
Police say in late September, two eighth graders, a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old, started fighting with another student. It started in a classroom and then continued after school at the Pizza Hut down the street.
As a result, the two boys were given long-term suspensions.
Soon after, rumors started that they were going to show up to school this Friday and "shoot up the school".
The two boys were arrested Wednesday. Four others are being investigated, but so far they have not been arrested or suspended.
Belen Superintendent Ron Marquez said the two boys have been in trouble before, "They have had some major discipline problems for the last few years in the school. Discipline problems with regards to defiance of authority, actual violence, actual attendance problems."Chief Dan Robb said the plot was caught early, "No guns were found, no plans no other types of weapons were found."
