ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Additional information has been released about how a suspected car thief tried to cover his tracks before a car chase ended in a crash.
Matthew McClellan was in court this weekend facing a slew of charges for the stunt cops say he pulled at this Smith's gas station on Tramway and Central.
Police say they were called to the station after someone thought McClellan was impaired and driving .
Cops say McClellan rammed a cop car and then caused crash as he tried to get away he was eventually caught after he ran out into the street collided with an APD cruiser.
The criminal complaint says McClellan stole the SUV and then switched its plates with a similar car.
The owner of that escape had no idea her license plate had been switched.
Cops say McClellan also had meth with him.
He is being held without bond.
