FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Prosecutors in Farmington say a man arrested in a suspected fatal DWI was previously convicted of vehicular homicide for a DWI case in 2003.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Dustin O'Brien says Joe Raymond Gallegos is the same person previously convicted of two counts of reckless homicide by motor vehicle for a fatal crash that killed a former Albuquerque Public Schools superintendent and another man. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.

The Farmington Daily Times reports that Gallegos was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly striking and killing 32-year-old Delandra Pioche as she was retrieving an item from the roadway.

Police say Gallegos fled to a mobile home but was arrested and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. He's being held on $500,000 bond.
