ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - From now on inmates in New Mexico, who are supposed to get out of prison on parole, will not have to stay locked up if they can not afford rent money.
In the past, inmates had to have the first month's rent for a halfway house paid before they could walk out of prison.
But the Albuquerque Journal says that now they won't have to all because of the case of one inmate who stayed locked up for an extra four months.
The state and other places are helping pay the rent, instead of paying for inmates to stay in prison which is a lot more expensive.
