Stabbings leave two critically injured

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The investigation continues into a pair of late-night stabbings that occurred within minutes of each other and put three people in the hospital.

Two of the victims suffered critical injuries although a later report said one of those victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

The first call came in at 11:35 p.m. from Holiday Bowl on Lomas Boulevard NE where patrons told police the victim was bleeding profusely when he left the building.

A short time later the victim appeared at UNM Hospital along with four men police described as intoxicated.  The victim was last listed in critical condition, and the four men were detained for questioning.

Police later said a fight at the bowling alley led to the stabbing and that security staff held the suspect until officers arrived.  The man detained, however, turned out not to be the suspect.

The APD Gang Unit is investigating it's not yet clear what if any gang connections played a role in the stabbing.

About 10 minutes after the first call, the second stabbing was reported at the Court John Motel on Fourth Street NW at Menaul Boulevard.

There officers found Daniel Abbott, 32, and Andrea DeLuna, 29, with stab wounds.  A police spokesperson initially said one of the victims was in critical condition, the other in satisfactory.  A later report indicated neither victim's life was in danger.

According to police DeLuna and Salvador Gallegos, 34, were registered in one room at the motel.  When DeLuna went to Abbott's room, Gallegos followed and stabbed both with a small pocket knife, police said.

Gallegos was arrested on two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.  He was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center under a $30,000 bond, according to MDC records.

Both crime scenes were described as chaotic.

Additional information on both cases is expected to be released later on Friday.
