Smuggler with exotic skins nabbed at border

SANTA TERESA, N.M. (KRQE) - Hundreds of pieces of exotic animal skins, some converted to wallets, have been confiscated at the Santa Teresa border crossing in southern New Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported seizing 332 python skins, six python skin wallets and five armadillo skin wallets
The driver of the vehicle from Mexico did not declare the goods, and agents found them in the center console. He told officers that he hid the skins because he knew it's illegal to import them.
The skins were turned over to U.S. Fish and wildlife, and the man was fined $500.
The seizure took place on Sept. 28 and was announced by CBP on Thursday.
