SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Monday marks the beginning of the second month of the Santa Fe Police Department's six-month crackdown on burglaries.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that since the effort began, residential burglary numbers have dropped more than 50 percent in July compared with the same period last year.
Last week saw a relatively low eight residential burglaries in eight days.
May was the second worst month in three years for residential burglaries.
Property crimes statistics for the last six months show that this year's 486 residential burglaries are already on track to outpace the last three years' 12-month statistics — at least until now.
