ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) - It turns out the prime suspect in a deadly Roswell crash was in Mexico.
Authorities arrested Joel Córdoba Lopez early Wednesday morning as he was crossing the border from Cíudad Juarez to El Paso, Texas.
Córdoba is the suspected drunk driver whom police say slammed into the car carrying Mandy Miranda, 30, and her two kids on Aug. 5.
Miranda and her 4-year-old son "Little Joe" were killed; 6-year-old daughter Mariah survived.
Córdoba fled on foot and has been on the run ever since.
His father lives in Mexico, and authorities suspected he might be there. They were right.
U.S. Customs officers say when Córdoba tried to cross back into the U.S., they recognized him and took him into custody.
He is now awaiting extradition, a process Roswell police say could take up to 10 days.
