ALAMOGORDO (KRQE) - A juvenile probation officer from Alamogordo is behind bars without bond after he was found with nearly 10 pounds of marijuana in his state vehicle at a border patrol checkpoint.

Saul Velasco was arrested at the Highway 70 checkpoint west of Alamogordo Tuesday evening.

According to the Alamogordo Daily News, agents found 10 bundles of marijuana in his vehicle.

Investigators say Velasco bought the pot in El Paso and planned to distribute it in Alamogordo.

He is being held at the Dona Ana County Jail and is considered absent without leave, so is not being paid.

Velasco has worked for the state juvenile probation office since 2007.
