ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque firefighters responded to the VA hospital after a staff member opened an envelope and discovered an unidentified white powder.
The employee contacted VA police who in turned called the Albuquerque Fire Department at about 3 p.m..
The building, which is not directly involved in patient care, was evacuated.
None of the seven employees in the room where the envelope was opened are showing any signs of illness, according to a statement released by the New Mexico VA Health Care System.
The VA hospital is south of Gibson Boulevard SE between San Mateo and San Pedro.
By about 6:30 p.m. AFD hazmat units had been released from the scene.
The VA spokesperson said the FBI had removed the suspicious envelope and taken it to the a crime laboratory for further investigation.
