Police search for suspect in crime spree

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Officials say that someone went on a destructive crime spree Monday morning.

About eight car burglaries and break-ins appear to be linked to the same man and police are trying to track him down.

The rash of burglaries started around 6 o’clock Monday morning.

One after the other, neighbors called police about a man in a blue SUV breaking car windows, stealing goods inside and speeding off.

It happened outside homes and businesses in the foothills.

Police say the suspect was driving a newer blue Ford SUV, possibly an Explorer.

They think the SUV may have been stolen last week.

No estimated cost for the stolen goods, but an APD spokesperson says the thief was mainly going after purses and backpacks visible from car windows.

“All the officers visited each victim, detectives are taking all that information and putting it together to form solid leads and see where those take them,” Officer Tasia Martinez said.

Detectives say they do have some leads, but nothing solid yet.

Police want to use this as an opportunity to remind people to be careful as it starts to get cold and we approach the holidays.

Do not leave your car warming in the morning and do not pack the car with presents or other personal items that can be seen through the windows.
