RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) - Deputies say tracks in the snow helped lead them to a major pot growing operation.

It happened in Ruidoso.

Deputies say it started with reports of a car hitting a fence and taking off.

When a deputy followed the tire tracks to a nearby property he discovered more than 50 plants and growing equipment.

He also found a number of guns.

The sheriff says one of them had been reported stolen in Texas back in 1988.

Investigators say the suspect isn't someone they know.

”This was the first time he had come on our radar haven't had any information on him before, Lincoln County Sheriff Robert Shepperd said.

Deputies are working on arrest warrants for him and a juvenile; they have not released their names.

They say they do not know if the pot was being sold in the Ruidoso area.
