Pojoaque Pueblo gets state police powers revoked

POJOAQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Santa Fe County sheriff has revoked the state police powers of Pojoaque Pueblo Police.
The decision was announced Friday night, affecting Pojoaque police officers' ability to enforce state laws against non-tribal members on tribal land.
Sheriff Robert Garcia says the decision was mostly based on a dispute over who should bear financial liability for commissioned tribal officers.
He is also heard complaints from non-pueblo residents who say they have been harassed by Pojoaque police.
The sheriff and pueblo officials are hoping an agreement can be reached very soon.
