ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque officer was honored Friday for helping a neighborhood fight back against crime.

At a regular Friday afternoon ceremony Mayor Richard J. Berry named Officer Guy Abbatantuono a Hero of the Week.

The officer went above and beyond the call of duty by putting a plan together to help curb drug crime in his neighborhood through planning and proactive policing, according to the mayor.

"He simply could have made arrangements for fellow officers to drive through the neighborhood and passively bolster the police presence," Berry said.  "But instead he dedicated himself to helping his neighborhood."

Berry said Abbatantuono managed his time on patrol so well he was able to created graphs and other data to help lower crime.
