ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police are investigating an overnight shooting that sent one officer to the hospital late Sunday.
APD was called to a scene in southeast Albuquerque around 10:30 p.m. Sunday near Ross and Ortiz regarding a domestic disturbance. A woman at that scene told police she was assaulted by a male.
After officers took the report – a group of men approached the officers saying they’d be involved in a disturbance regarding a stolen PlayStation.
At that time the officers say they heard something they believed to be fireworks or gunshots – an officer then felt pain his lower back where he had been shot.
That officer was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and doctors removed a bullet from his lower back.
Albuquerque Chief Ray Schultz said the officer in his good condition and recovering at the hospital.
Investigators are looking for two black males who were seen in the area at the time of the shooting.
Chief Schultz said multiple shots were fired in the area but police did not shoot.
