ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man failed to get an answer about an old, sad family mystery but may have come as close to the truth as possible.
John Flores recently convinced Louisiana police to reopen the 1970 murders of his great-uncle and great-aunt.
Leo Flores, 74, and his wife Omie, 64, were burned to death in the trunk of their car, which was set on fire along with their house near Mansfield, La.
John Flores said his family has always believed the killer was Omie's nephew, a rapist and murderer named James "Sonny Boy" Rambin.
"The way he did it was just so horrific," Flores said. "Just burned them up in the trunk of their car while they were still alive.
"Burned the house up; everything."
The Shreveport Times newspaper reported investigators recently interviewed Rambin, who's now 84 and in a nursing home.
He denied killing the Floreses, but the detectives doubted his truthfulness.
However, with no confession and no physical evidence, police think the murders will likely remain unsolved.
