ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Officials have released new information about the man allegedly murdered by a retired state police officer and his son.

Jack and John McDowell were charged with killing 35-year-old James Chavez in his Rio Rancho home in 2011.

Sources believe the murder was motivated by drugs.

An autopsy report obtained by KRQE News 13 shows Chavez was stabbed in the chest, abdomen and forearm.  Toxicology reports revealed that he also had meth in his system at the time of the murder.

Police say the young McDowell knew the victim.
