ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The man suspected in the city's latest murder was just a little too slow in getting out of town, according to Albuquerque police.
Officers arrested Octavio Jesus Suarez Friday night an hour after homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant in the murder of Michael Garris, 38.
Gang Unit officers caught Suarez, 38, just as he was about to skip town, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson said.
Garris was found in the back of an SUV in the South Valley Wednesday after a woman drove up to an unrelated police scene and said her passenger had been shot. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A woman in the car said a man in another SUV shot Garris at a house a few miles away in the 1100 block of Cerrillos Road SW. Police said drugs may have been involved.
Suarez was booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center on an open count of murder and is being held under a $100,000 cash bond.
