ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - No courtroom drama for a convicted killer accused of trying to have his mom smuggle him a packet of drugs during a court sentencing earlier this month.

Travis Rigel was in court Saturday facing new charges of drug trafficking.

Rigel was supposed to be sentenced at the beginning of this month for a 2009 murder but things got a bit chaotic when Rigel's mother, Misty Romero, passed an envelope full of papers to her son's lawyer to give to Travis.

Deputies were tipped off and in a hollowed out portion of the paper they found meth and heroin.

Romero could face charges for that too.

Rigel is still in jail.

He could get an additional six years in prison on top of the 45 he was already facing for the murder conviction.
